The spaces

El Pa Volador emanates authenticity and an elegant, eclectic setting, with unexpected nooks, imbued with Dalí-esque surrealism, which remains a lasting memory for all visitors.

Gardens inspired by the French Baroque, an ornamental pool with lion heads that serve as fountains; a Greek Parthenon functioning as a banquet hall; the Empordà sky captured on the ceilings of the main floor of the farmhouse; Catalan vaulted ceilings, a spectacular ribbed vault; free-standing columns with Ionic capitals; busts of emperors, Venus, and nymphs; ceilings covered in shells; three-pointed loaves with legs and Dalí-esque winged loaves revolving on their own axis... A fanciful, sumptuous, and surreal setting, full of unexpected corners.

The Palace of Winds, 800 square metres of banqueting hall, with marble flooring and glass walls, bordered by a set of 30 columns; the Dalí hall, a canvas of the most chimerical version of the Empordà sky, furrowed by the 7 winds that cross it; the Vineyards hall, a tribute to the land that cradles wine in the western Mediterranean; the Hearth hall, the open fire of a farmhouse that has fed generations since the late Gothic period, and hundreds more overwhelming details.

History

The entire complex is a constant homage to the Empordà region, its people, its genius, and its architecture as a symbol of identity and a way of inhabiting the territory.

El Pa Volador is a medieval monument from 1577, formerly a manor house (the birthplace of poet Anicet de Pagès), which was refurbished 50 years ago by hotelier and patron Joan Duran i Simon. This restoration is a tribute to the architectural, human, and artistic heritage linked to the Alt Empordà region, with numerous references to Dalí's work and the Francophone influence in the area, represented in exteriors inspired by the 17th-century French Baroque “jardin à la française” design.
